BTexact, previously BT Laboratories, is the research arm of British Telecommuications. BTexact is one of the premiere research institutions in Europe, with a patent portfolio of over 14,000 issued patents, is currently ranked by MIT as the first IP portfolio in the world for innovation. Synthetica has provided critical management consulting for the lab’s commercialization effort, has helped spin out a number of key IPs and technologies as independent companies and has helped finance the commercialization effort in partnership with Venture funds. Synthetica provided direct management for one of the commercialized ventures, Microwave Photonics, which completed a spin out, a first round of financing and was successfully sold to NextG Wireless in 2005.
NASA-Jet Propulsion Laboratory is one of the leading NASA research centers, administered by the California Institute of Technology. With a budget of over $5B JPL is the worldwide leader in unmanned space exploration and is responsible for significant advances in micro-electronics, sensors, materials, software and imaging, among others. Synthetica was retained by JPL’s commercialization and development corporation, VIASPACE, to help deliver a growth and financing strategy for its commercialization effort. VIASPACE subsequently became a separate listed public company. The strategy for VIASPACE to transform proven space and defense technologies from NASA and the US Department of Defense into innovative products that it believes fulfill high-growth market needs and solve today’s complex problems. Synthetica helped orchestrate a $23 Million financing and is currently helping with the commercialization effort of multiple ventures inside VIASPACE, including Direct Methanol Fuel Cell Corporation, a leader in micro fuel cell development, Arroyo Sciences, a defense sensor system company, Ionfinity, an instrumentation system company, Interactive Radio a technology for automotive and satellite radio, and Concentric Water, a technology for high efficiency water reclamation and purification. Viaspace has a JPL derived diversified high tech portfolio that includes microelectronics, sensors, homeland security & public safety, energy/fuel cells, information & computational technology, RFID, e-finance, and mobile e-commerce.
Philips Research Laboratories. Founded in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, in 1914, Philips Research Laboratories as part of Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V. has expanded the scale and scope of its activities to become one of the world's major private research organizations. With laboratories in five different countries (The Netherlands, England, Germany, China and the United States) and staffed by around 2,100 people, its common vision is to create technologies that will lead to products for improving people's lives. The Labs activities have led to the award of some 100,000 patent and design rights, and the publishing of many thousands of technical and scientific papers. Synthetica has been advising the Philips Research organization in matters of commercialization of material sciences and nano-technology applications.
CompuMed is commercializing unique imaging technologies applicable to tele-radiology and tele-cardiology to provide a host of services to healthcare providers that deliver high availability diagnostics and patient monitoring in critical cardiac and radiology markets. Synthetica has been retained to develop a strategic growth plan designed to significantly scale the business and is currently advising management and the Board on the execution of such plan.
HSN.com, an operating business of IAC/InterActiveCorp originated the electronic retailing concept in 1977 and has since evolved into a global multichannel retailing giant, offering thousands of unique products in fashion, beauty, home, jewelry and electronics. One of Synthetica’s Managing Partners working directly with the President of the company to take on the task of reorganizing HSN.com’s management and strategic direction.

Trestle Holdings, a spin out of University of Southern California, a public company, pioneered revolutionary imaging based technologies designed to facilitate data mining and analysis of tissue samples at sub-micron resolution. This technology is expected to set the foundation of many next generation imaging based analytics assays in quantitative histopathology, molecular biology, cytology and related fields. Synthetica was retained to manage the company’s turn-around, provided management and architected the 2006 sale of the company to Clarient, a division of Safeguard Scientific.
